Last week in Ukraine, the sky carried missiles and drones. The ground shook, and with it, the hearts of the people. For individuals living with Asperger’s, Down syndrome, autism, and other mental disabilities, these moments weren't just frightening—they were overwhelming. Fear didn't simply pass by; it stayed, lingered, and built.

Our Novi team was there, partnering with an extraordinary psychologist dedicated to helping these remarkable individuals find safety and strength amidst chaos. Together, we ran a four-day resilience camp, creating an environment where these vulnerable souls felt safe, seen, and deeply understood.

But something unexpected happened—something powerful. Early on, I realized they were teaching me far more than I could ever offer them.

In their presence, there was no ego, no pretense, no desperate need to impress. They reflected authenticity directly back at us. If we weren't genuine, they sensed it immediately. Yet when we laughed, listened, and truly embraced them, they responded instantly—fully present, beautifully open, entirely genuine.

One evening, as we gathered for a team debrief, tears filled the room. Words fell short because the depth of that day's experiences transcended language. And it was only the beginning.

It reminded me of the timeless words of Jesus:

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” —Matthew 25:40

Here's a thought I can't shake: What would happen if we all learned to be this present with each other? If we chose vulnerability and authenticity over fear and ego? Maybe we'd find exactly what's needed to heal our fractured world.

Join us as we continue this journey—not just through conflict zones, but through the powerful lessons of presence, love, and authenticity.
